Gault&Millau's review
Benoit Michel is a harvesting and handling winemaker based in Monthelon, representing the fifth generation of a family that has been working in the vineyards since 1847. Working alongside his father, Guy Michel, he honed his winemaking skills, emphasizing the house style and vintage focus. In 2004, Benoit became responsible for the vinification of Guy Michel champagne, and is recognized as one of the few winemakers to produce old vintages. He then decided to create his own brand, where he introduced techniques such as barrel vinification, as well as parcel-based cuvées. With the HVE and VDC labels, he cultivates the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grape varieties in an environmentally-friendly way, using grass cover and limiting inputs.
