Chef's Restaurant In the heart of the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park, renowned for its game-filled forests, pink sandstone rocks, ponds and gentle hills, this weekend house has become one of the most popular romantic addresses in the Grand Est region over the years. Set on a branch of the northern Zinsel river, the vast, light-filled dining room is surrounded by nature thanks to its large picture windows. Fabien Mengus offers classic, illuminated cuisine in the form of set menus. The chef continues the tradition established by the Kleins: the oyster served as an amuse-bouche, this time revisited with sauerkraut cabbage. For starters, a perfectly cooked hen's egg is served, combined with forgotten vegetables and enhanced by a gourmet emulsion with crispy smoked bacon. While the beautiful skrei back is confit with precision in olive oil and enhanced by roasted fennel with oriental spices, we regret not being able to take full advantage of the Bordelaise sauce, served sparingly. The Simmental beef fillet, simply pan-fried as if on a grill, is aromatic with its red wine sauce. The cheeses, matured to perfection by the famous Maître Antony, are a real treat, as is the famous Comté du Fort Saint-Antoine. We finish with a very soft pain de Gênes: topped with a banana mousse that's a little rich in gelatin, an amusing trompe-l'œil peanut and an audacious parsley sorbet. The meal is washed down with vintages chosen from a cellar that includes all the best French wines. If the flavors of the dishes aren't always very clear, you're sure to enjoy the comforts of a grand house, with its plethora of staff, and above all the lovely cart of pastries that you can sample in the elegant salon.
